The warm weather is here and that means it’s time to show some skin!
Summer has its own unique style advantages and challenges. What’s the secret to looking stylish and elegant as the temperature rises?
In this post – specifically for crossdressers and transgender women – I outline 6 summer style mistakes to avoid. Read on to learn more!
Mistake #1 – Too-Short Shorts
Many crossdressers and transgender women have beautiful legs. You should definitely show them off if you want to!
The mistake is wearing shorts that are too short or too tight. As soon as you start walking, the shorts ride up and show more than you intended. Keep it classy and chose shorts of a decent length.
Mistake #2 – Heavy Makeup
Not only does heavy makeup look out of place in the summer, it can run and look cakey if you start to sweat.
Skip the vampy lipstick, heavy foundation, and thick eye makeup. Go for a lighter look instead. You’ll look much more fresh and feminine.
Mistake #3 – Self-Tanner Faux Pas
We all know that baking in the sun can lead to wrinkles and skin cancer. Sunless tanner is a great way to get that sun-kissed glow. However, using the wrong tanner (or applying it incorrectly) is a definite DON’T.
There’s nothing worse than an orange or streaky looking tan, so check the tanner’s product reviews and learn how to apply it properly. This video has some great tips.
Mistake #4 – Flip Flops
Nothing says summer like flip flops, but the wrong sandals can ruin your entire outfit.
Flip flops are great for the beach or poolside, but they can look too casual or sloppy at other times. Instead, opt for sandals with more style and structure, like the ones below.
Mistake #5 – Visible Bra Straps
Strappy summer styles can make underwear a challenge. Visible bra straps can make you look less than polished. Here are some solutions:
- Use a bra strap clip to help keep bra straps under control.
- Wear a strapless bra or go braless with pasties/nipple covers to avoid bra straps altogether.
Mistake #6 – Sloppy Style
Summer styles are typically more casual and laid back. Just be careful not to cross the line from casual to sloppy.
It’s common to see women in ragged cut offs, dirty flip flops, and worn out tank tops. Why not stand out in classy shorts, pretty dresses, and casual but polished pieces instead?
Let’s see your summer style!
As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Can you think of any other summer style mistakes to add to this list?
Once we’ve gotten the “don’ts” out of the way, it’s time to enjoy your stunning summer style!

Being a golfer I like a nice skort and polo shirt. Of course a summery halter dress is always fashionable.

What do you mean:)
Very hot Lady!!!
For some of us who are a bit shy to venture out in public, this could be an opportune time because we can wear a face mask with 6ft distancing and the establishments that are open are not full of crowds.
and sunglasses and a hat . . . not that I am thinking about it 🙂
Here I am today – the new normal! I’m at Kohl’s. I hate it now that all the fitting rooms at these places are closed! Not to mention having to wear a dang mask! Oh well, I’m in one of my favorite summer sundresses. I still had fun being out and being treated like a lady. I’m a senior citizen at 74 years young!
Hi Suzy,
I just love your posts and pics. we’re about the same size and weight. i’m wondering what size and cup bra you wear. i think you’d look even more beautiful in some tops or dresses that reveal more of you.
Love,
AmberLinn
Hi AmberLinn! I just wear tops and dresses that are age appropriate and as feminine as possible. I wear a size 40C bra. Thanks again, I appreciate your comment! Hugs, Suzy

I think I’m part polar bear. I just love cool weather, gray skies, even rain, and especially SNOW. But I can enjoy lovely summer days also. I kinda look at the sun as the enemy, however, out to get me. So I practice protection: sunscreen, clothes which keep the sun off, time in the shade, etc. With the sometimes splurge of lots of exposure, like swimming. Within that range, there are plenty of clothes which keep the enemy at bay, yet look good and feel good. Especially lightweight loose, comfy flowing dresses, which let the breezes caress and soothe, and big floppy hats, with scarves and streamers for that dashing 19th century traveller look. Yup, summer has its appealing side, too.
Me, just chillin’ in the garden
