I chose the name Penny Lane, mainly because it was such a nice and simple name and easy for people to remember.
Previously my name was Benjamin, which i shortened to benny, so i turned the b upside down to get Penny. the idea was to stay close to my original name as i thought this would help friends and family adjust more easily.
On my 21st birthday i went to a bar and ran into a couple of drag queens, they told me to do a walk for them and they’d try pick out a name, so i did my little walk and they said that i definately looked like a penelope. I completely rejected the idea as i thought Penelope sounded like a really snobby name. I forgot about that night in the bar until a year later when i decided to go fulltime and had already picked out the name Penny. It’s funny how some things work out.
My last name was more difficult, i decided there was no point keeping my original last name as it was adopted from my step father and i didn’t feel any connection to it whatsoever. My partner and I looked through the phone book and couldn’t agree on anything, my favourite was “Perfect” (who wouldn’t want to be known as Ms Perfect :P) but my partner wouldn’t have that 😀
Well, considering my first name, my partner came up with the name “Penny Lane” from the beatles song. It sounded so nice and simple and it just kind of fit me perfectly. I fell in love with it, loved writing it down and practicing my new signature.
I decided this is the name i want to carry through the rest of my life, and just 2 or 3 months after we had decided I went to make it legal.
My previous name never felt like me, it just seemed so alien. It is a wonderful feeling now to have a name that i’m so proud of and that feels like me.
Peace and Love
-Penny
Hi Lucille
When I was at junior high school, even that far back, I envied the girls, and the one I envied most, was called Angelalyn. At age 14 she always looked and dressed exactly the way I wanted to look. Each day I actually looked forward class, because I would see Angelalyn, and what she was wearing, then try to imagine how I might look in her outfit.
Angelalyn
I pick my female name when i was 8 back in 1958 I love the why Linda sounded been to a few wedings where brid gave fris last AND AND MIDLE NAME SO PICK FOR MY MIDDLE NAME SUSAN BUT KEEP MY FAMILY NAME AS MY LAST NAME BOTH FRIST NAME AND LAST NAME ARE IN MY EMAIL ACCOUNT
My name was exceptionally easy but has a wonderful twist. I have always been steven from birth but always held Stephanie deep in my heart. I would go by stephanie on letters, websites, and even in my diaries growing up. My family never knew and still doesn’t to this day because they would never be able to accept me as a woman. I truly came into the name though nearly ten years ago when my wife and life long partner “caught” me one evening and though at the time she was furious she now realizes all of the benefits of being with a TG. Ever since that day my wife has called me stephie or stephanie when we are doing our “thing” as a couple rather then husband and wife. I have no shame of my last name even though my parents are not comfortable. The only reason why i keep it to my self currently is my current employer has yet to settle on the LGBT community where the rest of the world has.
Thank you Lucille for the opportunity to express something so dear and to everyone on here kisses and good luck to everyone on their respective journeys.
You ask a simple Question. My parents named me Francis. Well as a child I did not think anything of it but when I got to going to school I found out it was a girls name and again thought nothing of it because I knew in my soal I was a girl. Yes I dressed as a boy but at home I had my toys and they were girls toys so I knew I was a girl. Well the truth is I could not spell as ES is a girl and IS is a boy. It really means nothing today but inside I am a girl and that is allthat counts in me. And by the way I am 67 now. Fran.
Hi!
I kept my name as MOUNICA VARMA because mounica means a lady who maintains silence as women in India bear the pains to develop the family silently and VARMA is the suffix name of KINGS in INDIA. So I am a young adorable princess to steal the hearts of handsome price-

My birth name is Howard. When i first came out, i had 3 very special friends; Jorie, Janet, and Joni. they accepted me as Howard, but when i told them that I was TG, they told me that if i wanted to be part of their group I needed a name that started with the letter “J”. Several names came to mind, i wat trying to come up with 1 I liked, then, an old 70’s sitcom came on TV…then it hit me. the show was “SOAP”. Katherine Helmond played my favorite charactor on the show “Jessica Tate”.she was sweet and kind, but not very bright, and I thought she was wonderful. So i chose Jessica Tate as my name, as an homage to her. it silly, I know, but that’s how i made the decision
Kisses
Jessica
I chose Alice and sometimes Alison because Alice sounds close to Allen and I respond quickly when either are spoken.
