If you have facial hair, then you know how hard it can be to hide a beard shadow – and how much it can detract from your feminine appearance.
Transgender women and crossdressers are often told to use heavy concealer, but this is totally wrong!
Thick concealer creates a heavy, cakey look that can draw even more attention to the areas you want to hide.
So what’s a girl to do? I’m glad you asked! In this post, I’ll share 4 beard cover makeup items to use in place of that heavy concealer.
I also share a step-by-step video tutorial on how to hide your beard shadow with minimal makeup for a natural, feminine look.
Here’s what you’ll need:
1. Pink or Red Color Corrector
The first piece of beard cover makeup you should own is a color corrector. This is the #1 secret to hiding a beard shadow. By neutralizing the bluish tint of the beard shadow, you can achieve a natural look with less makeup.
Choose your color corrector based on your skin tone:
- Use a pink color corrector if you have a light skin tone.
- Use a red color corrector if you have a darker skin tone.
While your best bet is to use a color corrector specifically formulated for the face, another option is to use a matte pink or red lipstick.
Apply it: Use a small makeup brush to stipple a light layer of color corrector over the areas you want to disguise.
2. Medium Coverage Liquid Foundation
The next must-have item is liquid foundation. Choose a medium coverage foundation rather than a heavy formula. It’s best to apply several thin layers to build coverage rather than using one thick layer of heavy foundation.
Apply it: For pro results, apply with a foundation brush instead of your fingers or a sponge. Brush on a light layer and allow it to try. If you want more coverage, go back and stipple additional foundation over the areas of concern. (See the video for a demo!)
3. Loose Powder
The third item you’ll need in your beard cover makeup arsenal is a loose powder. Choose a powder with pigment as opposed to a translucent version.
Apply it: Use a large powder brush and dab on a generous layer of powder. Don’t use stroking motions or you’ll streak your foundation. Once everything has dried, you can brush off the excess powder with soft strokes.
4. Powder Foundation
If you have a light beard, the previously mentioned items might be enough. If not, the final step is to get an additional layer of coverage by using a powder foundation.
You can find powder foundation at any drug store or makeup counter. This is a great option for areas that need extra coverage.
Apply it: Using a makeup sponge, press on one or two light layers of powder foundation over any remaining visible imperfections and voilà! Your transformation is complete.

I use a device called NO NO. It burns the hair down into the folicle so the hair doesn’t grow back there. It takes lots of use to get good results but the hair does grow back just not as bad and it a lot cheaper and less painful than laser or electrolisys both of which I do also. I find after I use the NO NO I shave and then the hair stays gone for about a week before a good shadow is showing. I used most of the techniques you talk about too when there is hair there.
I found keeping moisturizer on my face applying morning and night even when I’m not being Lindsay helps to soften my beard and mustash so when I do shave I get get a much cleaner look and definately use the herb’s I found they are not only helping with growing my breast softening my skin but they also turned back the clock to when it take two to three days to develop a five o’ clock shadow.
Luv ya Lindsay
Hi Lindsay, can I ask what herbs you buy. I have tried to do research but, one says one thing the other says another.

Fenugreek (in capsules) is a herb (in the vitamin section of the drugstores, no prescription needed) that, –if memory serves– after being metabolized in the liver, acts as a poor-man’s (gurl’s) estrogen; and Saw Palmetto (also in the vitamin section) acts as a testosterone blocker, so they work very well together. The fenugreek is the more expensive of the two, but is a little cheaper if you buy it from Amazon; the saw palmetto is pretty cheap even at the drugstore.
After using them for about two years, I have developed noticeable breasts, and my face has a rounder (more feminine appearance) silhouette, and my lips have become fuller and darker, enough that just putting on clear Chapstick you would swear that I’m wearing a very nice shade of red lipstick!
To supplement those, I also do breast massages using food-grade almond oil along with either lavender oil (my favorite), tea tree oil, or geranium oil (very strong smell, not my favorite!) These can be bought online or at your local GNC store, a few of these are even to be found at some grocery stores.
I usually alternate using lavender and almond oil one night when doing my breast massages, then tree tree and almond oil the next night. Massage your breasts firmly in a circular motion around your nipple; in other words, if you start massaging at the top of your breasts, you will be circling your hands inwards towards your breast bone, the outwards along the bottom of your breasts, up along the outsides, then back at the top again. Take about 2 seconds per circle, and continue this for 20 or 30 minutes while watching TV or something that doesn’t require the use of your hands…
This routine has worked well for me to go from a 42A to 42B or C breasts (depending on who makes the bra) over the past 2-1/2 years, and might have slightly slowed the growth of my heavy beard; body hair doesn’t seem to have been much affected.
But I started Estradiol and Spironolactone a few weeks ago, so I’m looking forward to seeing what my GYN says will be a significant difference in the months to come, since I’m now using the “real stuff”, as she put it. But without seeing a dr. or getting a prescription, daily doses of fenugreek, saw palmetto, and nightly breasts massages, really did work very well for me. And as most things, it does take some time to work.
All of the above I learned from many months of online research, and I learned at the same time that laser treatments –if they work– are spotty in nature, generally don’t work well on thick beard hair, and often most of the hair seems to grow back after a few-to-several years, so I’m hoping to be starting electrolysis very soon to permanently remove my beard; the electrologist told me that my face should look as smooth and clear as hers eventually (yeah, probably between a year and two years).
What have I learned in the past several years? “It’s hard to be a girl!”
I have been using Dermablend for a while but recently started using Ben Nye Five O’Sharp Beard Cover. It works great.
I have found the red lipstick trick works for me. M.
