If you have facial hair, then you know how hard it can be to hide a beard shadow – and how much it can detract from your feminine appearance.
Transgender women and crossdressers are often told to use heavy concealer, but this is totally wrong!
Thick concealer creates a heavy, cakey look that can draw even more attention to the areas you want to hide.
So what’s a girl to do? I’m glad you asked! In this post, I’ll share 4 beard cover makeup items to use in place of that heavy concealer.
I also share a step-by-step video tutorial on how to hide your beard shadow with minimal makeup for a natural, feminine look.
Here’s what you’ll need:
1. Pink or Red Color Corrector
The first piece of beard cover makeup you should own is a color corrector. This is the #1 secret to hiding a beard shadow. By neutralizing the bluish tint of the beard shadow, you can achieve a natural look with less makeup.
Choose your color corrector based on your skin tone:
- Use a pink color corrector if you have a light skin tone.
- Use a red color corrector if you have a darker skin tone.
While your best bet is to use a color corrector specifically formulated for the face, another option is to use a matte pink or red lipstick.
Apply it: Use a small makeup brush to stipple a light layer of color corrector over the areas you want to disguise.
2. Medium Coverage Liquid Foundation
The next must-have item is liquid foundation. Choose a medium coverage foundation rather than a heavy formula. It’s best to apply several thin layers to build coverage rather than using one thick layer of heavy foundation.
Apply it: For pro results, apply with a foundation brush instead of your fingers or a sponge. Brush on a light layer and allow it to try. If you want more coverage, go back and stipple additional foundation over the areas of concern. (See the video for a demo!)
3. Loose Powder
The third item you’ll need in your beard cover makeup arsenal is a loose powder. Choose a powder with pigment as opposed to a translucent version.
Apply it: Use a large powder brush and dab on a generous layer of powder. Don’t use stroking motions or you’ll streak your foundation. Once everything has dried, you can brush off the excess powder with soft strokes.
4. Powder Foundation
If you have a light beard, the previously mentioned items might be enough. If not, the final step is to get an additional layer of coverage by using a powder foundation.
You can find powder foundation at any drug store or makeup counter. This is a great option for areas that need extra coverage.
Apply it: Using a makeup sponge, press on one or two light layers of powder foundation over any remaining visible imperfections and voilà! Your transformation is complete.

Wow! Some great tips for the ladies. I was curious if anyone can help a guy out? I’m in mid 20’s, used to have a flawless skin, without barely growing 5 o’clock shadow. Now its a different story, and i was wondering if anyone can point me to the right direction. Whats the best concealer to minimize the greenish/blueish tint, when shaving? I usually don’t care, but sometimes in special occasions, its good to look your best. Any help would be greatly appreciated. What concealer is best for minimizing the blueish/greenish tint?
Thanks

Hi all, i would really like to know what to use to cover sunspots on my arms and tattoos, also does anyone pluck chest hairs as i don’t have a huge amount i pluck them but sometimes it leaves slight lumpiness after, any way to eliminate this. I am 57 and skin isn’t as soft as it used to be. You all look fabulous and i feel so much at ease just knowing there are so many girls like myself.

I tend to get ingrown hairs something fierce when I pluck my chest, so I shave it every other day. I’d love to find a budget friendly way to get a smooth chest!
I have been living full time for around 3 years now and I am old enough that most of the hair on my face is white, the only shadow place is my neck but I use a Tweese on upper lip and the rest of my face. then I apply make up. The Tweese plucks the hairs out and your good for 24 hours. My heritage is a big help being half Pawnee I never had much hair on my face so beard shadow has not been a big problem. Being on hormones/herbs and in transition is a big help also, as the body becomes more fem the beard does get softer and the more you pluck the finer the hair gets. Kisses to all. Charlene

You look amazing, Eulises! Congrats on beginning early!
Since 25 years or so I have been undergoing electrolysis for beard removal so I have not had to learn the finer points of covering a beard. I have oily skin which tended to make any cover up necessitating the application of heavy makeup counterproductive on my face except for very small areas of it such as under my eyes with concealer which I continue to use today. It has been a long time now that I have not had any beard to cover, however, I continue to have the treatments to this day. My facial hair now is just very fine and scarcely noticeable now. Some persons say that electrolysis is painful: it is, however, it works for me painfully slow as it may be!
Does anybody else have that “puffy” area above their lip where their mustache would be? My upper lip/mustache area looks too pronounced even when I shave close and mask out the blue tint. I’ve heard that the extra large hair follicles in the mustache area can cause the skin to expand. Does anybody know of a way to minimize this region without electrolysis, laser, or surgery (I’m kind of broke!)
Any advice on how to handle this frustrating situation would be kindly appreciated (^_^)
Aw! Thank you Celeste! I’ll have to think about the facial pic (^_^)
Benedetta, thank you for the advice and compliment! There is a MAC counter where I work, so I will pay them a visit. I love your photo! Very feminine! When are we going to be treated with a facial pic?
