You are never too young or too old to be your best female self. But what does that mean when it comes to dressing age appropriately as a transgender woman or crossdresser?
We’ve all seen older women dressed like teenagers… and the attention they attract usually isn’t positive.
Does that mean you have to dress like an old frump after a certain age? Absolutely not!
I believe most of the “dress for your age” rules are silly and outdated… That said, there ARE some guidelines worth keeping in mind.
In this blog post, I share tips on how to look classy and feminine at every age.
Your 20s or Younger
20s: Transgender style inspiration
20s: Transgender style tips
- Your 20s are a time to play with trends and be adventurous. You’re still discovering your style, so take risks and have fun!
- You’re not a kid anymore, so avoid adolescent details like glitter, rhinestones, or cartoony prints.
- You can get away with short skirts and body-baring styles, but be careful not to cross the line from sexy to slutty. Good taste is a fashion DO at any age.
Your 30s

- Your 30s are the time to start adding a touch of sophistication to your look.
- You can still have fun, but it’s time to uplevel your look by dressing less casually than you did in your 20s.
- This is the perfect time to start building a wardrobe of classics while continuing to play with trendy items.
Your 40s

40s: Transgender style tips
- This is the age to start thinking about dressing in more tailored styles. Consider classic, clean shapes in bold colors or prints for added impact.
- Go for simplicity rather than complicated details. From now on, your look should be clean, classy and sophisticated.
- There’s no reason to turn down your sex appeal once you hit 40. But instead of baring it all, show off one part of your body and keep the rest covered.
Your 50s

50s: Transgender style tips
- Now’s the time to start highlighting your face instead of your body. (Though if you have a body like Candis Cayne, throw this rule out the window!)
- It’s especially important to wear clothes that fit well. Choose tailored styles that skim your body instead of clinging.
- As you get older, your clothes should get simpler. But simple doesn’t have to mean boring! Accessorize with bold jewelry, gorgeous bags, and great shoes.
Your 60s and Beyond

- By now you know yourself well and are past trying to look like a 30-year-old.
- Much like a woman in her 50s, it’s best to stick to the classics, with lots of interesting jewelry and other accessories to liven up your face and wardrobe.
- Invest in good quality shoes, handbags, and jewelry so you can enjoy them through this decade and beyond.
- No matter how far past 60 you are, you NEVER have to dress in frumpy old lady clothes!

nothing that’s what I like about my age
it is harder to find people that want to date or go out with
it is hard enough for T-Gurls at any age but the older you get
the harder it is.
I am not passable because of my age
I don’t care
This Sat night Donna is going to her first large event a Concert at large arena

Hi Lucille.
Your posts on many different topics are very helpful hints in my journey of transition.
I am a transgendered 57 YO woman, but find it difficult to find lovely ideas to experiment with as a an older woman. There seems to be a huge focus on younger trans people and not a whole lot out there for us more older women. Things like makeup, awesome clothes ideas for daily living and going out in. Makeup blending for my age is almost none existent.
It would be awesome if Lucille if you would post more information for us older women.
It all started as a joke. small challenge with a person who is in the movies. I laughed at an actor’s poor attemt to impersonate a woman. He got wild.. challenged me whether i could do better than him. i was forced to accept the challenge. by my over enthusiastic friends. Once decided i went all out.. dieted to reduce my body size. Feminised my body by stoping my usual weight training and other physical games. Diet was mainly fruits and soya which got pytoed.strogens which made my skin .smooth. and added femunine type fat. Engaged a proffessional makeup man and costumer. Learned feminine body language and gestures. The result…?
I won the challenge. Received lots of compliments even from women which strangely made me very happy.
That was the beginning. I never dreamed that i would like my feminine self more than my male look. Today i spend more time as a girl. Have my boy friend and last week went out with him as a girl and lived as a girl for 3 solid days.
The beauty was that no one ever suspected that this beautiful woman in deed was a male. That made me so happy.
I am a regular l reader of Lucille Sorella’s coloumns and her tips… suggestions and articles.. All helped me a lot in improvising my femine looks and confidence.
Thank you dear.
Sorry for the spelling, it’s both because this is written using my mobile and also because I am still shaking a little bit… But it’s good type of shaking:) So now I am at work in the hospital, wearing one of my new panties and a new pantyhose. Feels just right!
First time commenting on this site so here we go! I just wanted to share with you what happened to me today. I had planned for some time to exstend my wardrobe and since I had some time off today I jumped in my car and drove to a big shopping mall near to where I live. I have bought some lingerie before but always with the excuse that it is for my wife etc… And I had planned doing the same today but how do you manage to get the right size in jeans and dresses without trying them on? I have bought enough female clothes that I am not able to use that way… So I came to the shop, looked around and waited for someone to offer help, but no one came and that’s when I decided to just go for it say it as it was. I went up to a sales assistant and asked if she could with something. And then I told her, my heart racing, that I wanted to buy a dress for my me. She lifted an eyebrow for one small second, but then she said “of course I will help you” with a big smile:)) She asked what occasion, what color, fabric etc. and came with lots of suggestions. My mind was racing with all kinds of emotions but when I finally settled down a little bit and was standing in the changing room with my 2 different dresses I felt SO HAPPY!!!
I ended up buying a cute black half long dress with no arms, a couple of jeans, 2 different bras with matching panties, 1 white top and a necklace. And she was very nice and understanding the whole time and gave me credit for having the courage to ask straight out. Happy and slightly high(!) and saw this cosmetics shop and went in there and asked for makeup. AND they were just as nice and even helped me put some makeup. All my shyness was gone and It was all such a brilliant experience:)) I felt like the luckiest and happiest man in Norway:))) I just had to share this and once I find someone to take some pictures I will post them. Now I need a wig and some breasts I am good to try en femme in public for the first time. J.
When I dress up I look as though I am 20 years old, maybe it is because I do so much walking when I am at work………
Hi there evrybody i’am marvin hall i love to dress in women’s clothe’s and hopfuly to become a real woman.I do have some women’s clothe’s that alot of you will love to have.
It’s really important to dress appropriate for any public
Outing taking into concideration whether it’s day or night
What time of year will also play a large part in your outfit
Options which can be quite helpful with pass ability.
Fall and winter give us several options with jackets, boots,
Scarves , and hats all very helpful if coordinated properly.
A quick check of some womens magazines will help make sure
Your fashion choices are flattering and current as mismatches
Could bring some unwanted criticism .so dressing conservative.
When going out in public is the only time age appropriate attire
Even matters. For me personally if I don’t plan on going out my
Choices are uninhibitted.
The older I get my attention to style and fit are more important to me than in my younger years. Fashion, fabrics, and beauty products have changed dramatically over the years. Endless variety as compared to 1973 1when I began this journey.
