It’s amazing how much our names shape our identities. Some names feel like a perfect fit from the start, while others never quite resonate with us.
However, crossdressers and transgender women have the unique opportunity to choose their own feminine names.
Every great MTF name has a story behind it, and I’d love to hear YOURS.
How did you choose your feminine name?
Please tell us your story in the comments below, and if you can, share a photo too. It’s always lovely to put a face to a name!
Love,
Lucille
Melissa because it was very feminine and I by Mel growing up from milford so no one new that I used Mel for Melissa and it made me feel more feminine
My real name was Louis, then changed it to my female name Louise . I had a problem with my family. Then one of my friends started to call me out of the blue Lilly and from there it is Lilly for the last Year
My Feminine name Vina Eoi came from two places/things.
My first name was a play on my male name David. I always hated that name and wished mom had more imagination than naming me after my Uncle.
I went with Devina for a while. I really didn’t like the name either, it felt kind of dull and unimaginative. I then met a girl by the name Vina. When I heard it I kind of melted and decided I would shorten Devina to Vina
My Middle name Eoi Pronounced like the english letters A, O, E. I fell in love with this name when I was in Japan. I heard a mother calling her daughter this. It is also the japanese name for the colour blue. I decided to keep it but couldn’t let go of Vina either so I am Vina Eoi Hunt
My name comes from the actress I adored inmy youth (and still do), Julie Newmar. I did go by “Julie New-Ma’am” for a BRIEF time, but decided to keep my ‘Boy Initials” and went with Julie Michelle Shaw (JMS)
I joined a trans online support group for the first time. The moderator was pushy about me not being anonymous despite me being a nervous newbie. On the spurt a feminine version of my birth name, which I don’t use since realizing I’m more non-binary. Thankfully that was the last time I saw the Moderator but I’m still in the group.
I originally chose the name Sylvia because I really admire Sylvia Plath’s poetry despite there being a common association of her name with her tragic death. The name Sylvia also means “Forest” in Latin, and when I realized that adding the name Flora after it makes for a cute pet name that means “Forest Flower,” I was sold and never looked back. 🙂
The choice to have both a name and a surname takes origin from mixing the admiration I always had for an extraordinary actress, Doris Day and the love for an Oscar Wilde novel, “The Portrait of Dorian Gray”. Then…Doris Gray!
I just went with my feminine name for Jimmy which is Jamie.
