It’s amazing how much our names shape our identities. Some names feel like a perfect fit from the start, while others never quite resonate with us.
However, crossdressers and transgender women have the unique opportunity to choose their own feminine names.
Every great MTF name has a story behind it, and I’d love to hear YOURS.
How did you choose your feminine name?
Please tell us your story in the comments below, and if you can, share a photo too. It’s always lovely to put a face to a name!
Love,
Lucille
I just like the name Kate, like Caitlyn Todd (Kate) from NCIS, and of course, Kate Beckett from Castle. Diane came from trying to preserve my initials; it has since gone from Diane Catharine to Katharine Diane. Haven’t decided whether to keep my current last name, or go with something else.
Hi my name is Amber Courtney Williams I got my name from the gemstone Amber and because I like Amber I took it for my first name and the name Courtney I just like the name and Williams well that’s my real middle name and I just put them together to get my name.
I went through a bunch of names before I decided to use my current name. My first name starts with the letter A so I went thru some names and I have always liked the name Andrea, so I chose this for my first name. My middle name is Peter so I took that and added the letter S to the end to make it Andrea Peters. It has a nice simple ring to it and easy to remember. I have become more comfortable with this name that if I was to go permanent as a woman, I would legally change it to this. It fits me like a glove, so to speak !!

My SO helped me choose mine. She liked the idea of going with something with a similar feel to my birth name, so Jillian Christine it was. It does come with its own issues when talking unfortunately (on the phone people have a tendency to hear Joe or Joel when using the diminuitive form … primarily depending on the word that follows), but that also goes with voice, which is still an issue for me.
I did choose my name after i had created a list with names i like from a website ( i don’t know how many hours i surfed this site :P) and asked my closest friends what name they think would suit me.
Franziska was the first one. I also liked the meaning of the Name Franziska, which means the free one or the woman from Franconia, and i am proud to be Franconian 😀 ( Also its a name for an oldgermanic battle Axe 😛 )
I also had a really good friendship with a woman named Isabella, a really intense friendship, that i had choosen her name as second name.
I discovered my original name was Elizabeth to begin with, and my mother would slip up and call me that from time to time. So I became Elizabeth after I discovered my original BC, and it was right there! WOW, what a smack upside the head! When I went into transition, I became Elizabeth, and it felt right. A friend did Gematria and numerology on my new/old name, and said it suited me, and fit like a glove. She was right. By the way, I’m an “inter”, so they did two birth certificates when I was born. I looked at the other one, and somehow never believed that it was really who I am. Well, I am for real now, and never looked back after I made that commitment.
My middle name is Andrew, just a quick change of the last letter made me Andrea
