It’s amazing how much our names shape our identities. Some names feel like a perfect fit from the start, while others never quite resonate with us.
However, crossdressers and transgender women have the unique opportunity to choose their own feminine names.
Every great MTF name has a story behind it, and I’d love to hear YOURS.
How did you choose your feminine name?
Please tell us your story in the comments below, and if you can, share a photo too. It’s always lovely to put a face to a name!
Love,
Lucille
I’m right at the beginning of hormone treatment leading to gender reassignment ops. My name Selene (pronounced “Salina”) began in kindergarten when i began playing make believe games with my friends, always making sure there was one more female character than the number of genetic girls taking part and then assuming the leftover role. And her name was always “Moon”, hence it eventually became Selene, the Greek Moon Godess. My first memory of this was in 1967/68 – i ‘d always loved the Moon and i recall vividly lying on a rug staring at it one night that my Mum worked out was when i was about 30 months old, and the Apollo missions loomed large in everyone’s imaginations (although that was a couple of years later for me) in those days. I recall deciding definitively on the rug so long ago that the pattern that everyone says is the “Man in the Moon” is actually a snail, and seems still so to me, and of course the snail is a girl (even though snails biologically are hermaphroditic) to me; i was always a little affronted by the assertion of a “Man” in the Moon when i was little – something that has been so female to me forever) and her (the snail’s) name has been / is Moon / Selene. I recall driving some of my friends up the wall as a child with the repetitiveness of my Moon character: whilst all the other children wanted to space-bionic übermenschen / hyperprincesses with 27 quantum-enhanced supersenses and accessory Acme laserbeam eye attachments from the planet Thurglonia in the Senfonian System ruled by Zoltan the Gandanglious (or some such wonderful flight of fancy only tiny children can have) i just wanted – longed and needed – to be a little girl called “Moon”.
I was using “Lydia,” for a very short time, but Meme seems more reflective of my personal life. Tale of the two me(s).
my real name is Daniel but was called danny all my life so I shortened my real name to Dani
Had a very big crush on Souxie and the Banshees. (probably still have)
Hence my Femme name! If she had a thing about me she would call herself Dave!!! Sounds a bit odd doesn’t it!
I’ve always liked Lisa as a name. My daughter was going to be called that, but it never came about. When I started to realise who I am, Lisa was the obvious choice for me.
Hahaha, well….my mother inadvertently gave it to me!
I had been using the name Meryl Lynch. This came from a “What is your ‘drag’ name?” generator. It was childish but kinda cute so I went with it. I was adopted at birth. (Love to tell everyone I am an abortion survivor, lol.). However, a friend of mine, also adopted, invited me to a support group for adult adopted children. Interesting, I thought. While never having a need for a support group intellectual curiosity got the better of me and I went with.
So…the girl ahead of me in discussion mentioned that her name was really supposed to be Mary Elizabeth. When it came my turn, I chuckled a little then turned to her and then the rest of the group and said that my name was also supposed to be Mary Elizabeth, as well! This is only funny becaue, that day I went with my best “male” friend and I presented as a male to the group. Recently, and after having worked for my late father for 25 years, I was now working for my mother. Therefore, in a snub and for coming out I decided to go with my TRUE name which is Mary Elizabeth. Everyone loves the name and so credit to my mother after all.
Ellie is a shortening of my real name, and it always felt it fit.
I was born Joseph. I’m known to all my family and friends with the nickname Jody. So when I chose Jodi as my name I didn’t want to to lose myself. Even at the young age of 4 I knew I was not a boy. Making my name Jodi kept the best parts of myself if this makes any sense… lol
Best to all
Jodi
