Do you long achieve a more feminine figure as a crossdresser or transgender woman?
If so, the secret lies in creating a more feminine hip-to-waist ratio – that coveted hourglass shape!
In this blog post, I’ll share 5 MTF tips on how to slim your waist and enhance your hips, ultimately helping you achieve a more feminine and flattering body shape.
1. Try Waist Training With a Corset
If you’ve never worn a corset before, prepare to be amazed: A corset can take up to 6” off your waist and make you look and feel ultra feminine.
A corset can even be used for a semi-permanent waist size reduction. Waist training with a corset isn’t fast or easy, but it can work wonders when combined with a proper diet and exercise.
Check out this Guide to Waist Training from Orchard Corset to learn more about what waist training is and how to properly use corsets for this purpose.

2. Wear a Waist Cincher
As lovely as corsets are, they aren’t always practical. A big drawback is that corsets can look stiff and bulky under most clothes. And they’re not exactly known for being comfortable.
Waist cinchers, on the other hand, are designed to be worn under clothing. A waist cincher can take 1-4 inches off your waist while still allowing you to move and breath easily.
Here are 3 top-reviewed waist cinchers available in small to extra-large sizes.

3. Improve Your Posture
Good posture can make you look 10 pounds lighter around the middle, so pay attention to the way you sit and stand. Think: stomach in, chest lifted, and shoulders back.
Even better – put on your waist cincher! A waist cincher improves your posture by forcing you to keep your tummy in and your spine straight.
4. Do Stomach Vacuum Exercises
Traditional exercises like crunches and sit-ups can overdevelop your abs and increase the size of your waist. This is obviously the last thing you need in your MTF body shaping journey.
Instead, consider doing stomach vacuum exercises. This exercise tones the transverse abdominis – the innermost ab muscle that holds your stomach in and acts like a built in corset. Everyday crunches don’t target this muscle.
Stomach vacuums (also known as the vacuum pose) can take 2-4 inches off your waist, so it’s definitely worth a try. I personally lost 1 inch off my waist after doing this exercise for 2 weeks!
Here’s how to do it:
- Exhale all the air from your lungs.
- Expand your chest and suck in your stomach as much as possible. Imagine trying to touch your belly button to your spine.
- Hold this pose for 5-15 seconds and then relax.
- Repeat for 3-5 minutes.
Stomach vacuums should be done on an empty stomach and can be done standing, sitting, or on your hands and knees.
Watch the video above and/or check out this article to learn more about stomach vacuum exercises.
5. Enhance Your Hips
A small waist is only half of the equation. Your hips should appear approximately 10 inches larger than your waist for true hourglass proportions.
Here are some tips for enhancing your hips:
- Wear padded panties. Classic Curves carries the best hip and butt enhancers for crossdressers and transgender women. You can also find a big selection of removable hip and butt pads on LoveMyBubbles.com.
- Go for skirts and dresses with gathered waistlines. Gathers are the easiest way add inches to your lower body and create the illusion of hips.
- Look for peplum styles. A peplum is a ruffle or overskirt attached to the waistline of a top, dress, or skirt. This is a feminine style that adds instant fullness to the hips.

I have used most of your suggestions Lucille. I have used a bust corset for a number of years and love it. It helps my posture and works well with heavier material dresses to cover the front latches. I have a padded pantie and love it under tight slacks. It is amazing how it makes my hips look bigger. I am attaching a picture of me in a dress with a peplum. I love the look it gives me. It makes me feel so feminine!
A few words from a very long time corset wearer !There are a few things that you should all consider, wearing a corset to long or way to often can and will cause some problems !First and most important , this item can and will cause muscle problems . If worn for long extended amounts of time the back and some of your tummy muscles will weaken , so be careful and do some work outs to re build them . With OUT the corset on !!! If not you WILL pay dearly for it later. Also there may be some muscle hyper extension of the lower ribs, which could cause some nerve issues later. We are not built the same as birth girls , so our rib cage is designed to hold more lung tissue, thus wider rib cage !
Second , to tight of a fit can and does reshape your innards.
It can cause shorter breath and acid reflux. The shorter breathing will be noticed mostly when you are lying down because the diaphragm does not have gravity to help your breathing. As for the acid problem , well we all know how bad that can get. So take your time getting used to them and don’t go to tight !
Now for those Girls out there that want a bit more padding I can recommend using a good pair of shears and some 2 inch thick memory foam. Take your time and snip snip snip till you get a good taper , full 2 inches in the middle and smooth taper down the leg piece. Under compression all the snip marks and lines will go away . Cheap from E bay as a mattress topper.
We like this best because it will compress down and become so much like your own skin. It wont have that hollow sound like poly foam does, and wear it under a good pair of panty hose like Leggs . The compression from the hose will do the trick. I like control top because it gives firmer control around the butt yet lets the foam expand a bit more on the thy at the hip bone as birth girls do. It is close to natural skin tones and can be washed in the washing machine. Let to air dry. If left in the sun a bit the color will darken a bit too! Practice on some small pieces first. Also , which I like a lot , you can use powdered make up on them to match more closely your own skin tones.
I would take a piece of paper to make a pattern first , EX. ,for me say 8 to 10 inches at the top for the hip and thy then straight down about 16 or so inches in the front and then the back side add a bit of curve to match the natural fatty areas of the leg. This can also be used for a second set to be placed over the thy piece and around the butt, wow that combo really works and doesn’t sound funny when you move . Also it has a very natural feel .
You don’t have to hurt yourself to be FEM Love you Paula
Hi Paula,
Could you please draw a sketch of the foam piece you described in your post?

taper to as thin an edge as you can, but even an edge of 1/8 will disappear when in use.
place one on each side for thy from just below the hip bone going down.
place one on each side with large part an inch or so from center crack and around just below the waist toward the tummy letting the two overlap. this makes the hips even fuller. also try some different placements to fit your desired look. the lower the side wrap is the more bootie you get.
One more thing , be careful not to tug to hard on foam , it will tear some . How ever it will still work. You will be amazed at the look and comfort . Can be worn for a very long time and you don’t get all sweaty , and can be washed when needed. hope this helps, Paula
Hi Lucille. Thank you for another great post. I am really into the whittled down look. The corset training and vacuum pose you mentioned should help me get down to about 26″ since I am about 29″ now. My jazz dance exercises really help me keep in shape and I walk and bike, too. I consider myself very lucky that though I have this challenge in life, I lucked into a woman’s figure somehow.
I have muscle damage in the stomach area thanks to a surgical mess up. As a result I look 8 months pregnant, Is there anything I can do to lose this tummy bulge, exercising, diets, swimming even expensive memberships with the treadmill and exer-cycles have not lost me more than a pound or two. Any ideas??
Sorry to hear about that. Have you tried a corset? A lot of postpartum women use corsets after pregnancy to pull the muscles back together. This could help in your case, too.
Good luck!
Hi Lucille, and thank you for your answer. Yes I have considered a corset, but, therein lies another issue, the proper measuring for one. I know most of my other sizes without to much effort, but that one baffles me. There is also the “Where to get one” problem. If you have further information to impart I would appreciate it. Thanks again.
2 months later x
hi ,im trying ? x
Being 5’11 and 215 lbs makes it very difficult to look feminine and pass, especially if you have strong core. I’ve lost 50 pounds over the last few years. It’s very difficult to find a good corset that can train my waist. I’m hoping hormone therapy will help a little but time will tell. Anyone know of any really strong corsets that will help?
o MY!!!
Seeing beefy Arnold on this website is the LAST thing i ever expected! giggle
sooo beefy. i just wonder, did all those steroids he took make him… well…. you know…
Haha, definitely not the look we’re going for… but you must admit that’s an admirable waist. 😉
