Do you long achieve a more feminine figure as a crossdresser or transgender woman?
If so, the secret lies in creating a more feminine hip-to-waist ratio – that coveted hourglass shape!
In this blog post, I’ll share 5 MTF tips on how to slim your waist and enhance your hips, ultimately helping you achieve a more feminine and flattering body shape.
1. Try Waist Training With a Corset
If you’ve never worn a corset before, prepare to be amazed: A corset can take up to 6” off your waist and make you look and feel ultra feminine.
A corset can even be used for a semi-permanent waist size reduction. Waist training with a corset isn’t fast or easy, but it can work wonders when combined with a proper diet and exercise.
Check out this Guide to Waist Training from Orchard Corset to learn more about what waist training is and how to properly use corsets for this purpose.

2. Wear a Waist Cincher
As lovely as corsets are, they aren’t always practical. A big drawback is that corsets can look stiff and bulky under most clothes. And they’re not exactly known for being comfortable.
Waist cinchers, on the other hand, are designed to be worn under clothing. A waist cincher can take 1-4 inches off your waist while still allowing you to move and breath easily.
Here are 3 top-reviewed waist cinchers available in small to extra-large sizes.

3. Improve Your Posture
Good posture can make you look 10 pounds lighter around the middle, so pay attention to the way you sit and stand. Think: stomach in, chest lifted, and shoulders back.
Even better – put on your waist cincher! A waist cincher improves your posture by forcing you to keep your tummy in and your spine straight.
4. Do Stomach Vacuum Exercises
Traditional exercises like crunches and sit-ups can overdevelop your abs and increase the size of your waist. This is obviously the last thing you need in your MTF body shaping journey.
Instead, consider doing stomach vacuum exercises. This exercise tones the transverse abdominis – the innermost ab muscle that holds your stomach in and acts like a built in corset. Everyday crunches don’t target this muscle.
Stomach vacuums (also known as the vacuum pose) can take 2-4 inches off your waist, so it’s definitely worth a try. I personally lost 1 inch off my waist after doing this exercise for 2 weeks!
Here’s how to do it:
- Exhale all the air from your lungs.
- Expand your chest and suck in your stomach as much as possible. Imagine trying to touch your belly button to your spine.
- Hold this pose for 5-15 seconds and then relax.
- Repeat for 3-5 minutes.
Stomach vacuums should be done on an empty stomach and can be done standing, sitting, or on your hands and knees.
Watch the video above and/or check out this article to learn more about stomach vacuum exercises.
5. Enhance Your Hips
A small waist is only half of the equation. Your hips should appear approximately 10 inches larger than your waist for true hourglass proportions.
Here are some tips for enhancing your hips:
- Wear padded panties. Classic Curves carries the best hip and butt enhancers for crossdressers and transgender women. You can also find a big selection of removable hip and butt pads on LoveMyBubbles.com.
- Go for skirts and dresses with gathered waistlines. Gathers are the easiest way add inches to your lower body and create the illusion of hips.
- Look for peplum styles. A peplum is a ruffle or overskirt attached to the waistline of a top, dress, or skirt. This is a feminine style that adds instant fullness to the hips.

I have found that a combination of increasing chest and hips while minimizing my waist works best. I use the formula that Bust should be waist + 10″ and hips should be waist + 12″ to look balanced for my height.

You are Adorable! I love the Purple dress. Your face is angelic. Good job with hair. Enjoy being You, girl!
At 71, I hope you enjoy my look. …T.J.
I go out dressed frequently and I pass/blend-in quite well, so my experience gives me confidence on this subject. At first I tried the corset/waist cincher things, but in reality, they’re quite uncomfortable and they make it hard to breathe, honestly. And here’s another thing… I have a bad back and go to the chiropractor regularly, and the corsets/cinchers hurt my back after a few hours. So I haven’t worn them in ages.
By all means, go to Classic Curves International and buy one of their “Veronica” hip & butt enhancing garments if you’re not taking hormones (or, even if you are!). I bought one for a couple hundred dollars in 2004 and I’m still wearing it underneath my clothing in 2012 to this very day… and I don’t wear anything to slim my waist anymore. If you’re going to want to spend ANY amount of substantial time as a woman, you need to be comfortable doing so, or you’ll be miserable after 3-4 hours, I GUARANTEE you!
Honestly in my opinion, their garments INTSTANTLY transform your bottom half into that of a female with curves. They’ve made undergarments for Hollywood actors I’m told. The quality is very high and they’re CUSTOM made to fit YOU! The important thing to know is that they ask you for a lot of body measurements you otherwise wouldn’t think you would need to provide. The key thing to remember when taking these measurements is to BE HONEST with the measurements!!!!!!!!! The undergraments are CUSTOM made to suit you individually, and despite all the money I’ve ever spent on “Jeanette” over all these years, that was THE BEST $200-plus some-odd dollars I spent for my femme presentation, I ASSURE YOU.
So please take my advice and go with the Classic Curves hip and butt padding… you won’t regret it. I’ve been addressed as “Ma’am” in public, out there dressed, many many times girls… I KNOW what I’m talking about!
Stay Beautiful!
Hello Lucille, I have been on your flat_to-fem program for some time now and the results are beyond words. I have grown very large breasts very fem legs, arms, butt and hips with just the herbs. I have lost allot of weight and love this new body thanks to you. I now go out wearing nothing but my new outfits all women’s clothing with my corsets which I have many. I have a great time showing off this new and wonderful body thanks to your program. With allot of work on my part but well worth the time and money to be this happy. All of your advice and info has been very worth while for me to become the real person (women) that I have always wanted to be. Thank you very much for all that you have done for me.
Your friend.

The Vacuum Pose does work, and an advantage is that one can do it virtually *anywhere*: at work, in the shower, standing in the checkout line at the supermarket, etc.
You are so sweeet …. corsets are on my mind. No picture to share right now, Lucille. There is a red one in a store I wish to buy.
This blog has valuable information to guide me. Where else can I grow and learn so much about feminine stuff. I will read all the articles.
You know, it is still some what scary going into woman’s section to browse without getting stares.
Tomorrow I will be seeing my doctor (female) for the first time for a phyisical. I wonder what she will say when sees my breasts.
Would you believe I LITERALLY just had this on my mind tonight? And I KNEW my brain was telling me to skip the crunches during my exercises for a reason! It’s as if you read my mind. Thank you so much, I’m glad to have learned what the vacuum pose is.
I have a 28″ waist but it’s the hips I lack. I can’t quite afford a Veronica yet, and I’ve seen that black padded panty on Amazon and Ebay for $15-has anyone used/reviewed one?
Lucille,
I just love your posts and email information. It shows me I am not alone in trying to be more feminine and natural! Thank you and God Bless you for your help!

Hi Lucille:
As always a great topic. You always seem to hit on just whats on my mind. (Perhaps because such is mostly what i think about.)
I have been hesitant to start dieting as of late even though my goal is to slim down my waist from a 33 to at least a 30 . But keeping a little extra weight on for Your flat to fem program which by the way are showing good results.
i do plan on going at my waist with a combo of diet, continued exercise and corset training. From the research i have done, it will work but will go to someone experienced in corset fitting when i start.
Now to figure out the hip situation (without padding).
Take care and as always, much thanks.
Hugs, rayelynn
