Full lips are a symbol of youth and beauty. Women naturally tend to have fuller lips than men, so lush lips can give you a more feminine appearance.
For crossdressers and transgender women, this detail can have a big impact on your overall look!
But who wants to risk trout pout with painful, expensive injections?
The good news is that there are some simple, non-invasive ways to plump your pout. Here are 5 ways to get fuller, more feminine lips:
1. Exfoliate your lips
Dead skin cells on the lips can give you a dry and chapped look. Exfoliation removes the dead cells so your lips can hold onto more moisture, giving the lips a more luscious look.
Exfoliation also increases circulation to the lips, making them look fuller.
You can exfoliate with a washcloth or soft toothbrush. There are also a variety of lip scrubs out there. Lush makes some great ones in a variety of flavors.
2. Try a lip pump
There are a number of devices out there that can temporary plump the lips using suction to draw fluid to the area. This creates a plumping effect that can last for several hours. Some examples:
The drawback to these devices is that they can cause bruising or even serious injury if they aren’t used correctly. They can also leave unattractive red marks on the face.
If you decide to try a lip pump, be sure to follow the instructions carefully.
3. Boost collagen
Collagen is a protein in your body that helps keep the skin and lips plump and smooth. As you age, your body produces less collagen, which can lead to thinner lips and more wrinkles.
Luckily, there are ways to increase collagen naturally:
- Take a collagen supplement. These are inexpensive and easy to find in any health food store.
- If you’re not a fan of pills, try eating bone broth soups or fruits and vegetables with vitamin C. These foods support natural collagen production.
4. Enhance your lips with makeup
The right makeup techniques can work wonders on your lips. Remember, there’s an art to applying makeup! It’s all too easy to cross the line into artificial looking clown lips.
For full, feminine lips, try this lip makeup tutorial from Makeup Magic: The Ultimate Male to Female Makeup Program. (You can access the complete program here.)
5. Use a lip plumping gloss
There are loads of cosmetic lip plumpers on the market — and some of them actually work!
The best lip plumpers contain ingredients like hyaluronic acid to draw moisture to the lips or peptides that increase collagen. These plumpers create lasting results without causing long term damage.
Some lip plumpers contain irritating ingredients like cinnamon or cayenne. This creates swelling, which make the lips look fuller. However, they can dry out the skin in the long run. I recommend limiting your use of these.
Here are a few of my favorite lip plumping glosses:
- GrandeLIPS Hydrating Lip Plumper Gloss
- TOO FACED Lip Injection Plumping Lip Gloss
- Sublime Lips Manuka Honey Lip Plumper
Let’s talk lips…
As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this topic. Have you ever tried plumping your lips? What worked and what didn’t?
And for fun, be sure to upload your luscious lip pics in the comments below!

transformation tips?
I’d vote if I had the slightest idea of who any of the ladies are so by position the bottom row center gets my vote hands down
I myself like to use different colors to make my lips look plump. A light irridescent color just on the inner center of both lips and they pop.
lucille: how do you enlarge a male breast?
I have tried several lip plumper and they do work for a little while; therefore have to reapply it ever so often. Tomorrow I will be done up professionly for the annual locale Cancer Relay for Life event and will send a picture of me during the event. Mind you I am a only an Occasional Cross Dresser, ie, special events or away from home.
Hi everyone…I wanted to leave some advice on hair…I use my own hair now for everyday looks,
if you are not able to grow your hair out, and you are out on the town, try a full wig with soft curls, with bangs, I think the curls soften the face and help as far as we generally don’t have the same hair line as women…you can allways pull up the sides and tie back leaving the bangs down for a more casual look.
Also, I would like to ask for as many of you as are willing & able to help me out. You see, I’ve known for a long time that I am a woman trapped in a man’s body but I am not trying to get a full sex change…
Instead, I would like to get a nice set of breast implants as well as a few other alterations to my body and you can read more about them by clicking on my name…
That site also points out how you can help me as well as what I plan to do for the one person who helps me out the most…!
Hi,Lucille
Thanks for the new advices. I try at first hyaluronic acid. It’s difficult to choose whose lips of these beautiful ladies are the sexiest. I imagine whose lips I would like to kiss more than others. And the Oscar goes to Scarlet Johansson!
What can I do to improve my look?
Hi alison I think a darker coloured wig maybe not shorter and more natural toned make up I hope this helps good luck.
Hi Alison….
My name is Cassandra…I am going to be 43 in a month and I wanted to say that as we get older I stay away from bright lipsticks, I know that some of us want to stand out and some want to blend in….I would deffinately say the suit is great and I would try to stay with your natural hair color, something a little wavy and darker, and lipstick, I would use on you “wine” or “burgundy” you would see a very positive change.
I myself think you need a shorter hair style with wispier bangs, with a softer shade of lipstick. You have a beautiful face! Show it off! Luv that smile.
Alison,
First off, you look very feminine and pretty darn good to start with.
While I’m certainly no expert, but i think the natural lines of your face could be softened by a hair style that has more curl and body to the sides of your head and reveals a bit more of the ears. Classy but eye catching ear-rings if a complementary color could assist in this as well.
The shape of your upper lip could be improved by the use of plumpers and/or additional lipstick/liner to form a higher peak in the center, especially if the shape of lipstick was a bit less bold.
Eye makeup and eye liner will also help stretch your face vertically making it more feminine and appear taller.
I find in photos i have to constantly remind myself to keep my chin up and a bit out (to prevent double chinning) and smile while pursing my lips a bit (vs. wide smiling) or it increases the smile lines in my face making me look older. Perhaps similar posture and expression / modeling techniques could assist you.
Also nothing helps feminize a photo like cleavage, one fewer button, some taping/form positioning and a more halter style bra will add some nice curves to anybody.
Finally haven taken quite a lot of photos i find that photos from below and that are somewhat backlit (like this photo) make me look older, heavier and more masculine. Use a good camera with flash and a timer that is slightly above eye level looking down with you face slightly to one side 3/4 to 7/8 forward but with eyes to the lens. The front lighting will soften and feminize the lines of your face and you’ll be even more beautiful than you are now.
By the way you really do look just great here.
Hugs,
-Darla
