There’s nothing like silky smooth skin to make a girl feel extra feminine!
For crossdressers and transgender women, hair removal plays a big role in creating a feminine appearance. But when you’re dealing with lots of face or body hair, things can easily go wrong.
The secret to a smooth, hair-free chest, soft feminine face, and silky smooth legs lies in avoiding some common mistakes.
Here are 5 MTF hair removal mistakes to avoid – and what to do instead!
Mistake #1: Not Exfoliating
All methods of hair removal can cause ingrown hairs, particularly in the beard, chest, and bikini area. You can reduce ingrown hairs by exfoliating your skin 2-3 times per week. This helps get rid of dead skin cells that can trap the hair.
To exfoliate, gently massage your skin with a washcloth, loofah, or exfoliating scrub. My favorite tool is The Body Shop’s exfoliating Body Polisher washcloth. You can find similar exfoliating clothes on Amazon.
It’s important to note that exfoliating immediately after hair removal can irritate the skin. Instead, it’s best to exfoliate either right before or a few days after the hair removal process.
Mistake #2: Forgetting to Moisturize
Dry skin is another cause of ingrown hairs, so it’s important to keep your skin hydrated. (Besides, you want the added benefit of soft, smooth skin, right?)
Pure aloe vera gel is a great moisturizer to use immediately after hair removal. Aloe vera is a natural moisturizer and skin soother.
Another option is to use an unscented lotion or body oil. Perfumed lotions can irritate freshly shaved, waxed, or lasered skin, so avoid them for the first 24 hours after hair removal.
Mistake #3: Not Treating Ingrown Hairs
Exfoliating and moisturizing your skin can help prevent future ingrown hairs. But what should you do about existing ingrown hair bumps?
First, let’s talk about what NOT to do. Resist the temptation of shaving over the ingrown hairs or attempting to extract them with a needle. These actions can lead to infections and scarring.
Instead, try using a specialized ingrown hair treatment like Tend Skin or PFB Vanish. These products are designed reduce razor bumps and ingrown hairs.
Mistake #4: DIY Hair Removal Gone Wrong
Professional waxing, electrolysis, and laser hair removal treatments are expensive, so it can be tempting to try to do them on your own.
However, be careful as some DIY hair removal techniques can lead to painful side effects if your technique isn’t perfect. Here are some pitfalls to watch out for:
Waxing – Mistakes to avoid
Newbie waxing mistakes – like waxing over the same area twice, pulling the hairs in different directions, or pulling too hard – can lead to rashes, bruises, and torn skin. Ouch!
If you still want to do it yourself, I recommend investing in a professional waxing treatment first, so you can observe and learn the proper techniques.
Laser hair removal – Mistakes to avoid
Home laser hair removal systems can save you a lot of money compared to professional treatments. However, it’s important to understand the risks (including burns, scars, and hyperpigmentation) if the devices are not used correctly.
Proceed with caution, take your time, and carefully follow the provided instructions.
Electrolysis – Mistakes to avoid
While there are some home electrolysis machines available, I do not recommend venturing down this path.
Performing electrolysis hair removal is a complex process, which is why professional electrologists are required to obtain licenses.
Not only are most home electrolysis machines unreliable, but there’s also a considerable risk of burning or scarring yourself. It’s best to consult a professional electrologist for this particular procedure.
Mistake #5: Going for the Biggest Bargain
I’m all for beauty bargains, but don’t let price be your sole criteria when choosing a provider for hair removal treatments.
Opting for an ultra-cheap price tag may result in a waxing service that leaves behind stray hairs or a laser treatment that yields patchy results. In the worst-case scenario, you could even end up with burns or scars.
Check the qualifications of the person treating you and read the reviews on any place you are considering. Yelp is your friend!
Also, keep in mind that upscale places tend to put more emphasis on comfortable treatments. If you’re a waxing or laser wimp like me, it’s worth spending a bit more for a less painful experience.
In conclusion
To achieve silky, soft, feminine skin, it’s crucial to avoid these common MTF hair removal mistakes. This is a major DO for any crossdresser or transgender woman.

I agree, having another man strip and get into bed with me is just so exciting. I just loose all inhibitions and want to rub my smooth body against his. I don’t mind a bit of hair on my man, sort of macho like. Then having him come in me … well I loose it. I just want him to take me. I used to be bi but think I’m totally fem now.
OK, so this is JUST my opinion, and opinions are like a-holes…
But, truth is, I tried razors, and the effect lasted 1 1/2 days, followed by a day of stubble, so I had to shave every 3rd day. HRT slowed or drastically thinned my body hair, but my facial hair remained unaffected even two years into HRT.
I started Laser Hair Removal (LHR) in October of 2016, as and have seen excellent results.
HOWEVER, if you have blonde or gray hair, LHR may not work well for you. LHR curently requires a dark pigment to be sucessful.
But, the experts are testing a laser that removes blonde and gray hair. But I’ve been told progress is in process.
Why haven’t I used Electrolysis to remove my gray? Great question! That’s because there are NO electrolysis experts (or amatures) within 100 miles of Little Rock, Arkansas.
If there was, I would SO be there getting a touch up on my gray.
Yes, some girls have difficult hair or it grows back so quickly. I hate stubble to, but I’m lucky. I do a touch up between my legs every week or so (it gets me excited!) but the rest of me stays hair free for about three weeks to a month.
No, I do not wax, only shave. I like to use Dove liquid bath soap, the most common one. I wet my body in the shower, apply the Dove, not too thick to a leg and shave it, ankle up to butt, then do the other leg. Be careful around the knee, you don’t want a nick. Then I move on to my butt, bend over and spread those cheeks and carefully get right up around your little clit. Then do the front. You will probably have to do the thick stuff around your penis a couple of times to get it completely. Then move up the chest, do each arm and get under the arms as well.
Tip: I like Gillette Venus razor, costs a bit more but the lub strips and extra blades (and the easy grip handle) are worth it. Comes in nice colors to. Then finish the shower, pat dry and apply a moisturizer. I currently really like Amazing Grace by Philosophy. After that, I like to lay on the bed for a while and feel how smooth and sexy my body is (Slut!)
I guess I’m just lucky. HRT has made shaving my upper leg unnecessary, and my lower leg is so thin, I can get away with not shaving for two weeks easy. But I still have to shave my private zone.
No disrespect, but if your refering to waxing the private area, OUCH!
That just SOUNDS painful!!!!
Did it get easier after the first couple times? Do you use a salon, or do it yourself?
I exfoliate daily when I shower. Ive also learned a good trick is to use conditioner on the hairs prior to shaving. Any conditioner will work. I apply it and let it soak for a few minutes and then rinse. Follow up with shaving like normal, then after I pat myself dry I wait 25-30 minutes before I use my aloe vera moisturizer. This allows the poars to close a little and helps keep some od the lotion out. And of course a clean sharp razor is always a must along with constant rinsing of the blades.
How often I need exfoliate and how often I need to moisturise my skin and when I am exfoliating my do I need moisturise after the same day? Thank you
I have been in and out of being femme most of my life. In my male modes I have had wives and girlfriends that did not know about my fem side and I tried to hide my attraction to males. Now I am totally fem and living as a woman 24/7/365 and am even legally married to a man and am his wife. I do many things that I saw my wives and girlfriends do for hair removal. I wax some areas and shave other areas but my body and skin is always smooth and feminine. Since HRT and eating a diet that promotes my estrogen I have found that also helps with body hair growth. I do not have to shave or wax my legs and butt as often.
Julie, I have been flipping back and forth myself, started in my early teens. I had a great wife for years and was pretty much straight with her, but when she passed away I just drifted into a full time fem life, and I love it. Not attached to anyone but would like to have a thoughtful hard cocked man (or husband).
Any tips on an estrogen promoting diet? I am not vegetarian, still like a burger or salmon but a boost in estrogen would be welcome.
Hi Roni girlfriend. There seems to be an ever increasing number of us girls and women like us. I luv living as a woman and prepared for it before I retired.
Look up estrogen promoting foods and you will get a list of items that you can eat to promote your estrogen level. Fish, chicken and try turkey burger instead of beef. Bean sprouts and seeds are good, I eat sunflower seeds on my salads at home and also when my husband takes me out. Fennel seeds, fenugreek (I call it femugreek because of fem and Greek cuz I take it in the butt from my husband), wild red yam and a few others. I go to a close by vitamin shop as a woman and but things to help keep me feminine. My husband luvs me going all out to be a woman and he uses me as a woman. I also started smoking weed again which is supposed to raise estrogen levels and that was when my now C cup breasts really started developing. Good luck and please let me know how your life is going as a full time woman
Thank you for this advice, especially about the exfoliation BEFORE shaving/waxing! However, I did use the Mens Nair Hair Removal Formula at one time, but it now seems to have “disappeared” from the market place.
If any hair is left after using the Nair, which sometimes does NOT take it all off, I use and electric (rechargeable battery) razor that takes the unwanted hair off. The best one I have found that does a really great job is Yes! by Finishing Touch. It has a microfilm between the blade and skin, is fairly quite, and really does feel like you had your legs/arms
chest waxed.
It can also be used on facial hair, ONLY if it is just starting to grow, otherwise you WILL need to use a regular razor.
Hope this info will help for those who have “bad reactions” to either the Nair or waxing treatments.
I only have hair on my chin and that is blonde, so shaving is the only option open to me.
Try to find and buy a product called Yes! by Finishing Touch. It is a cordless rechargeable razor that does an excellent job at keeping skin smooth.
I’ve tried some of hair remove products either leaves rash or not at all but do know when shave my legs their silky smooth an shiny never shave my private area although do trim it or cut to unnoticed>zena
This is me with short hair
