Of all the topics I cover on this blog, lingerie is definitely the most popular. And no wonder! There’s nothing like indulging your female self in a lacy bra or silk nightie.
While half the fun of lingerie is expressing your own personal style, there are certain “rules” worth keeping in mind…
So, are you following these rules? Find out by reviewing my top 7 MTF lingerie rules for crossdressers and transgender women.
Rule #1: Know Thy Bra Size
Most women wear the wrong bra size, so there’s a good chance that you might be too. A bra that doesn’t fit right is uncomfortable and creates unattractive bumps and bulges. No girl needs that!
Your best option is to be professionally fitted for your bra size. (Don’t be afraid to go in for a fitting. Many lingerie shops are transgender-friendly and welcome your business.)
To learn how to measure your own bra size, check out my article on How to Find Your MTF Bra Size (Transgender / Crossdressing Tips).
Rule #2: Avoid Visible Panty Lines
A bra strap peeking out of your top can be sexy. Visible panty lines? Not so much. Here are 5 ways to avoid VPL (visible panty lines):
- Make sure your panties fit right. If they’re too tight, they’ll dig in and create bulges. Too loose and they’ll wrinkle and bunch up.
- Try seamless underwear for a smoother look. Seamless panties are made without seams or trimmings that can show through clothes.
- Wear a thong. No visible panty lines there!
- Go for boyshorts. Boyshorts might not sound girly, but they’re actually really cute and don’t create panty lines.
- Avoid cotton panties. Cotton undies have a tendency to bunch up. Go for microfiber panties instead.
To learn more about choosing the right panties, check out my post on How to Choose the Perfect Panty (Transgender / Crossdressing Panties Style Guide).
Rule #3: Coordinate Your Bra And Panties
While the rule about matching your shoes and bag is outdated, your bra and panties should look like a set.
Mismatched lingerie looks sloppy and even if nobody sees it but you, why not look your best? The colors don’t have to be an exact match, but they should at least coordinate.
Rule #4: Choose High Quality Fabrics
Since lingerie is worn next to your body, fabric makes all the difference in the world. High quality fabrics feel great, lay more smoothly, and last longer.
Cheap fabrics wear out quickly and can even trap odors. (Eww!) Look for lingerie constructed with quality fabrics like jersey, silk, rayon, and cotton.
Rule #5: Know When To Say Goodbye
Do you own any ratty panties or stretched out bras? If so, toss them immediately.
It’s hard to feel sexy and feminine in worn out lingerie, so get rid of anything that’s lost its luster. Most lingerie items need to be replaced every 18 months or so.
Rule #6: Own More Than One Bra
To extend your bra’s life span, let your bra rest a day between wearings to keep the elastic from stretching out. If you only own one bra, that means it’s time to shop for another one (or 10!).
Rule #7: Buy Lingerie That Fits Your Lifestyle
Do you have a bunch of sexy underthings, yet nothing practical to wear under your clothes? Or maybe you lack certain feminizing shapewear pieces.
Lingerie should fit your lifestyle, so take stock. Are you missing anything from these categories?
- Basics – T-shirt bra, seamless panties, pantyhose, etc.
- Shapewear – Control cami, girdle, padded panties, pocketed bra for breast forms, etc.
- Sleepwear – Nightgown, robe, sleep bra, etc.
- Sexy – Lace bra and panties, body suit, garter, etc.
- Activewear – Sports bra, moisture wicking panties, etc.
Let’s talk lingerie!
What do you think of these lingerie rules? Do you agree with them? Do you have any lingerie rules of your own?

For PaulaPlaytex : love, love your name — what would we girls be without our Playtex bras and girdles — I remember the ones I first stepped into (that were my mother’s, of course) : they came in an aluminum tube, and smelled so wonderfully feminine, a powdery scent still etched in my olfactory memory….
oh yes girl playtex all the way
So much to learn. I think before going after a control cami, I need to shed some of me. As for Lucille’s coming out information, love it. I have declared myself transgender woman. My dysphoria over this is at it’s end. For the sex change surgery I have been living as a woman. Woman clothing only, purged all male clothing. I AM woman, and will dress as one. My issues are make up, the talk, the hair. Right now, hair is for wig use. I WANT to be woman. I am on estrogen, and hopefully in a year have gender change surgery done.
Thank you Lucille for your information. Being transgender woman is GREAT, onward to becoming as close to total woman as possible. Transfemme products have been a major step forward. Love my breast size but hope for larger on doctor ordered estrogen.
I like bralettes, camis, and tanks — alone or combined — on top, basic brief panties below. I try to have a functional “every day” sort of wardrobe but I do have some nice lacy things for fun time as well.
I need a dominating woman or trannies touch, I am beyond willing, a bottom popper addict I crave to be a bad gurl for a crew of men every night . I guess I can do almost everything myself but dome help with the make up and a BBC pimp would help too…..
Lucille, I just love your tips, been Xdressing since 1958, I enjoy it now more than ever, now that I live alone. I’m still in the closet, but my family, and a few friends know. I was so afraid to come out, but it was a relief to finally come clean. Great site, been a fan for some time.
Love to know how to measure myself for a new bra
Cloth tape measure, wrap it around your body be sure it does not sag in the back, and position it over the top of your breasts. Make it snug, but not pressing In. For a good bra fit, reduce the measured distance by 1 inch. That measures your chest, including breasts. That is how long the bra has to be. Consult a size chart for cup size, which are generally accurate.
It is becoming an emergin fashion trend in Nordics and Canada to show a feminine figure for men. This is a movement aiming for a gender equality. Male supporters of this movements are starting to wear at least hip pads an breasts forms as a fashion trend, in a way to achiveme a more equality on gender appearance. Some have modified some outfits to suit better this new image (female jeans instead male jeans for example)
I’m not sure what a control cami is, but I do know this cami is out of control! I bought it online and it was so uncomfortable, I cut out the shelf bra and I didn’t do a very good job. Now it’s got threads hanging inside, a seam that’s coming apart and it’s still uncomfortable. Also, my dirty laundry is piling up in the background!!!
Hmmmmmm that went wrong.put my saver pikkie up accidentally!!
Hi Morgan you have many pictures on this site and each one shows the woman you are.i wish i had a wfe like yours so i could freely take female hormones and fill out where we should.

You look absolutely gorgeous – innocent and pretty. I wish you well
Carly
A control cami gives you good posture, and holds your waist in – you should never have cut the support bra ! But you look cute in your violet support cami – is this the garment you’re talking about ? Looks perfect to me – keep up the good work, but don’t be silly cutting out the support you need for your girls !…
Omg wow
Yeah, sorry about my laundry.
I want to be a fulltime sissie and I love being filmed and having my pictures used to be exposed to my family and friends. I was hoping to find a woman who is willing to help me become a permanently feminized sissie who she can sell my pictures and videos and webcam shows that I am very serious about doing and she gets the money she makes and I get to be dressed up and become a transexual or a transgender sissie
ii agree with you desire to with a female friend to take pics, i think that many dont realize we wont be with ladies who accept us for what we are i only want to be with my wife and girls who accept who i am -don’t give up Love ure pic
But Darling Morgan : you should never have cut out the shelf bra out of your control cami ! What is a control cami ? Exactly what it says : it controls your upper body, straightens your posture ! Of course you have threads coming out of the garment – you might as well retire it !…
Also, keep in mind, that suffering a little for beauty is part of being a woman – think of corsets, girdles etc. being worn for centuries by women…
All that being said, you have a wonderful bust – Brava !
