Do you want to look younger, prettier, and more feminine? If so, try changing your hairstyle! There’s no easier way to improve your appearance.
What are the best male to female haircuts and styles?
I’m glad you asked!
The most flattering and feminizing hairstyles are ones that help soften strong facial features (like a prominent nose or jaw) while making your eyes and lips pop!
Read on to discover the top 6 MTF transgender hairstyles. Note that these style tips work for both wigs and natural hair.
1. Side Swept Bangs
Bangs are a great option since they draw attention to your eyes while hiding a prominent brow ridge. Bangs also make you look cute and youthful!
Straight bangs can highlight angular facial features, so go for soft, side swept bangs instead.
2. Layers
Layered hairstyles tend to be much more flattering than hair that’s all one length. Face framing layers soften your features and add texture and volume to your hair.
3. Soft Waves
Soft waves are super sexy and feminine. Waves also add volume to your hair, making thin hair appear fuller.
Most trans women and crossdressers look great with full, wavy hair that balances out stronger facial features and a larger body frame.
4. Shoulder Length Hair
Shoulder length hair is the best option for most women, including transgender women. Hair that’s too short can look masculine, while hair that’s too long can drag down your face after a certain age.
Shoulder length hair is very feminine and flattering. Additionally, it helps conceal a stronger jaw or thicker neck (if these are issues for you).
5. Side Parts
Middle parts can be tricky since they make your face look longer and highlight your nose and chin. Side parts are more flattering and can be worn by anybody with any face shape.
6. Highlights
Finally, don’t forget about color! Highlights brighten your face and look softer than a single block of color. Generally speaking, your highlights should be two shades lighter than your base color for the most natural look.
Make everyday a good hair day!
Nothing can boost your appearance like a fabulous hairstyle. As you can see from the tips above, the key is to think SOFT – soft cuts, soft texture, and soft color – to balance and feminize your features.
Hair is an important topic, so I’d love to hear from you!

I prefer shoulder length with some waves and curls x
how I have mine now—- but plan on getting it longer —and fuller
I recently changed my hairstyle from a centre parting to a side parting and absolutely love it. It took a while to train the hair but now it’s easy to style with the parting almost falling where it’s supposed to. A side parting helps me to look more feminine and opens up more exciting hairstyles. I’ve been heat free for 5 months after a lot for damage from hair straighteners. Now my hair has recovered I’m going to try a more wavy/curly bob hairstyle.
It’s taken me 2 years to get decent shoulder length hair and I’ll never go back to having short hair.
I had longer hair during the first four and a half years, and use mainly the layers style, but being a tomboy as I am, I’d love shorter styles and since 2014’s new year, I wear it in a short bob-kind-of style and started using a close shave one side (almost always the left side). I used the Kelly Osbourne look for a couple of months (photo included). Today I have short hair in a dark brown tone, with a shaved side and in the process of growing it longer again.
Sorry. I repeated an image, here’s the right one.
Great article again, Lucille.
My hair is like Laverne Cox’s, not because I want to be her, it’s what I prefer. But I’m open on a lot of styles shown here. I’ve had it done up many different ways and loved every one of them. My hair has a natural light curling effect, too. My only problem is my hair is very thin and have to use volumizing effects and products to look better.
Hi Lucille,
Longer hair is most better for Transgender Women. That’s look nice & beautiful also.
Longer. Love ur hair! It’s perfect!
Here is different look with longer hair. What do you girls think? Long or short?
Sabrina
I’m typically a longer style girl but I have to say although the longer style looks good on you, you definitely rock the shorter style. I think you look younger with a shorter hair style.
Jill
Sabrina, I tend to like your longer hair. BYW, been on any cruises lately? You and I were with a group Halloween 2011 I believe.
