Embracing your true self as a transgender woman or crossdresser can be challenging to say the least. It’s no surprise that fear often stands in the way of taking the next step!
Have you ever considered what you would do if fear didn’t hold you back?
- Would you plan an exciting femme outing?
- Would you confidently reveal your feminine side to someone significant?
- Would you embrace living as a woman, regardless of naysayers?
We often have a million reasons why we can’t do something – be it our age, family responsibilities, or finances.
But the truth is, it usually boils down to fear.
Are you ready to be fearless? Here are 3 tips to help you conquer your fear so you can confidently express your fabulous female self.
1. Accept Your Fear
What you resist often persists. However, when you accept your fear, it has a peculiar way of losing its grip on you.
Our minds are designed to keep us safe. Facing unknown situations or potential disapproval triggers fear in us by default.
Recognizing fear as a natural biological response can make it easier to accept. Remember, feeling fear doesn’t signify weakness – it just means you’re human!
(Note: I’m not suggesting you ignore fear in situations concerning your physical safety. Always use common sense in these cases.)
2. Replace Your Fear Thoughts
Have you ever worried that something terrible would happen, only to realize it never did? Most fear arises from our thoughts vs. the actual reality of the situation.
You cannot simultaneously think two thoughts. Therefore, if you focus on a positive thought, it becomes impossible to think a negative or fearful one at the same time.
Drowning out your fear thoughts with soothing thoughts can go a long way in helping you deal with your fear. Here are some thoughts to try:
- I deserve this.
- I’ve done harder things before.
- I am stronger than my fear.
3. Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway
There is a book out there called Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway by Susan Jeffers. I highly recommend you read the book, but the title alone is a great motto to live by.
The core idea is simple yet powerful: the only way to conquer a specific fear is to confront it head-on and take action. Once you do it, there’s nothing left to fear!
Have you ever noticed that the more you avoid something, the scarier it becomes? Avoidance doesn’t dispel fear; it merely builds anticipation, which often proves worse than the actual event.
The more you face your fears and take action despite them, the stronger and more confident you become.
Are you ready to be fearless?
So what would YOU do if you had no fear? Are you willing to take one small step in that direction? As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments section below!
Love,
Lucille
I have no fear of going out as a woman. Everyone sees a woman when they look at me. But I do have one fear. What if I am in a fender bender as a woman and the police sees my drivers license with a male name? Can I be arrested for dressing as a woman and my license has male on it? Please tell me how to get out of this one.
No the cops cant arrest you for your looking femi. I have had them address me as Ma’am even after they seen my Drv.Lic. with M on it.
don’t worry about anyone or anything. just be yourself everyday and know there are other Gurls just like you in this big world.
I know how you fell. I drive a semi truck all over and being stopped was always a fear til i was. The officer was suppressed but inform me that aslong as I give them my legal id there’s nothing they can do. Since then I’ve been stopped many times by police and dot officers some ok some get a little upset most dont have any problem. I have had some ask me about dating. So be confident and dont worry.
I go out dressed enfemme all the time, never had a problem. In fact, a good friend of mine who also does was driving home one night after a girls nite out and did get pulled over by a police officer but when the officer looked at her license (whch had her male name on it) he was sort of embarrassed and sent her on her way and said something like “have a good evening miss”. I live in Rhode Island so being a small state it’s probably more common around here to see outdoor enfemme girls.
There is no law about impersonating a female. It may be embarassing but its not illegal. I know from experience.
It’s ironic that these suggestions are basically the way I have recently come to think about my femininity. I’ve pretty much conquered my fear and now I want to go out in the world as the woman that I am. Next week, I have appointsments on Tuesday to have my make-up done in the morning, get a manicure, have my color done and then get my hair styled. I am so looking forward to it. Since it’s Thanksgiving, I want to say, thank you god for making me a woman.
I am not scared of much, but I have my fears, and I have a lot to discover. My fears are mainly social, things I have experienced in my childhood.
I hate being excluded from events. I don’t like drinking though, for a 17 year old that’s rare… but I just don’t like seeing people drunk and vice versa. I hate beetles (june bugs in particular, their antennas creep me out… they’re gross…)
But my fears are my strength 🙂
Dear Lucille:
If I truly had no fear I would go on a date, en femme, with a handsome man at a public place that is not already particularly noted for being LGBT friendly. And if he was a gentleman and treated me like a lady I would give him a long, lingering kiss at the end!
As for skydiving, that’s easy. I have done it about 140 times. Only a few real tips for a first timer. Just look at the fuselage or wing strut or wheels on the plain going out the door rather than straight down. Be prepared for a weightless stomach feeling for the first few seconds of free fall. It is a lot like the drop off the first plunge on a roller coaster, except more pronounced. This will settle down rapidly as you either speed up and/or the chute opens. If you are in free fall for awhile, as in a tandem jump, your speed encountering the air resistance will create the illusion of stability and weight. Once the chute opens, whether you do a tandem jump or a static line solo jump, your just dangling from the chute and weight returns to normal.
Go girl!
I go out just about every weekend to go dancing….and am comfortable at the places I go to. I do get together with my friends occasionally to go shopping and feel a bit fearful at first. But, when we start walking around it goes away!

I have been wearing women’s clothes for over fifty-five years. I told my wife about my dressing a little over two years ago. I now wear a bra, forms, and panties to bed every night. I couldn’t have done that two years ago, or even last year. I will be going out dressed for the first time tonight. Lucille, you are a great help to me and my journey. I woke up this morning extremely happy knowing that I’ll be going out tonight. I have some fear, but it will not hold me back any longer! Thank you dear Lucille.
Fondly,
Nancy Marie
