Many crossdressers and transgender women tell me that it was easier for them to look feminine when they were younger.
The truth is, you can look beautiful and feminine at any age!
While nobody can stop the clock, there are some simple ways to shave a few years off your appearance – if that happens to be a goal of yours.
Read on for 7 simple ways to look younger now.
1. Choose the Right Hairstyle
Hair has a huge impact on your appearance. Long hair is undoubtedly feminine, but be careful – hair that’s too long can emphasize drooping.
Consider these styles for a fresh, youthful look:
- Shoulder length hair – This length is universally flattering.
- Bangs – Bangs are cute, youthful, and perfect for hiding forehead wrinkles.
2. Add Some Sex Appeal
While you shouldn’t dress like a 20 year old, you definitely want to avoid looking like a buttoned-up old lady.
Here are some ways to add a bit of youthful sex appeal to your look:
- Wear high heels and flirtatious stockings.
- Choose clothes in sensuous fabrics – like lace, velvet, and fur.
- Show some skin (just not too much!).
Check out my previous article 3 Rules for Dressing Sexy at Any Age for more tips.
3. Get Enough Sleep
We all need our beauty sleep, but the older you get, the more a lack of sleep shows up on your face.
Under-eye bags, dark circles, and sallow skin distract from a feminine look, so be sure to make sleep a priority.
4. Add Some Color to Your Wardrobe
If you usually wear a lot of black or neutral tones, try adding some bright colors to your wardrobe. Bright colors have a youthful vibe and liven up your appearance.
5. Whiten Your Teeth
Teeth are a subtle cue of age – old teeth tend to look yellow or grey.
Whitening your teeth brightens your face and takes years off of your appearance. Try Crest White Strips for cheap and easy tooth whitening.
6. Use the Right Skin Care Products
Most skin creams don’t deliver on their “miracle in a bottle” promises. However, there are certain ingredients that have proven anti-aging benefits.
Fight wrinkles and firm your face by using products that contain one or more of the following ingredients:
- Retinol
- Vitamin C
- Hyaluronic acid
- Alpha hydroxy acid
- Green tea
You can find affordable products with these ingredients in any drug store.
7. Smile
Yes, it’s trite advice, but smiling really is the fastest way to improve your appearance!
A smile lifts the cheeks and acts like an instant facelift. Smiling also gives you a pleasant look and puts people at ease – making it easier to blend in as a woman.

Dear Lucille,
That’s a great article. All of your points are very important and if we can follow them, it will be most helpful. I have been blessed with a youthful appearance, and although I’m 78, most people don’t believe it. Thanks again for your helpful advice.
Would you believe I’m 57?

Nope! Cute shoes, BTW!
I would give anything to be as gorgeous as Sarah Palin.
I am in my early 40’s and tall (6′ 1″) and slim build.
Back when I was in my 20’s I used to look like Suzanne Somers when I dressed up and I hope to get to the point of passing again.
These women are a great inspiration and I’m greatful for your tips, Lucille.
Lots of love,….
Rachel
My hair has thinned out at my age of almost 63 but is still rather full. Treating it has become difficult in that I can not do what I did with my hair 20 years ago or so. I use a special shampoo and conditioner and although wash it every other day use very little shampoo and from the Galvanic Spa System which may or may not have helped regrow my hair but I am still faithful to it.
My favorite is CHER. I don’t know how she does it!
I have a very elaborate tanning system which I am proud of and use a tanning lamp every morning up to an hour so I am tan all the time. I do wear bright colors and dressing well can never stop for one who perseveres, I know. As for aging this must be hard for anyone and especially for transwomen and I am among them. Smiling is something I could work on but as my lifestyle is getting better I do smile more and with the rigorous cleaning my teeth get they are white all the time and also because I avoid anything which may stain them like coffee or tea or chocolate or blueberries. I also sport high-heeled footwear and am well known for this but am constantly having something done with them through a zapatero.
Wow, I would have voted for Tanya. This is very nice representation of tgwomen and how well they withstand the forces of time and entropy. The classy women age in camera eye and it is harder to compare. Thanks Lucille for advice,
🙂 Hugs jeri
