Did you know that your body language makes up more than half of the impression you make on others?
That’s a big part of your feminine image as a crossdresser or transgender woman!
Body language comes down to four key elements: your posture, gestures, eye contact, and facial expressions.
Unfortunately, it’s easy to develop bad body language habits that can undermine a poised and polished appearance.
In this blog post, I’ll share 27 MTF body language mistakes to avoid when presenting yourself as a woman.
27 MTF Body Language Mistakes to Avoid for a Flawless Feminine Image
- Slouching
- Constantly checking your phone (this is a biggie!)
- Biting your nails
- Rummaging through your purse
- Crossing your arms
- Fidgeting
- Shaking your leg or tapping your fingers
- Not smiling
- Scanning the room while speaking with somebody
- Talking too much with your hands
- Exaggerated nodding
- Examining your teeth or face in public
- Applying makeup in public (other than a quick swipe of lipstick)
- Resting your chin on your hands and elbows
- Sitting with your legs apart
- Clanging your silverware
- Avoiding eye contact
- Eye contact that is too intense
- A weak handshake
- Clenching your fists
- Standing too close to people
- Chewing loudly
- Talking while you eat
- Eating or drinking too fast
- Bending towards your food instead of bringing the food to your mouth
- Leaning forward too much
- Leaning back too much
Phew, that’s quite a list, isn’t it? Some of these might seem obvious, but let’s be real – we’ve all witnessed these behaviors in public!
Are you making any of these mistakes? If so, don’t feel bad. (I’ve had to work on some of these myself!) Instead, resolve to improve them.
For fun, do a “body language study” the next time you’re out in public. Notice the subtle actions that enhance or detract from people’s images.
Can you think of any other habits that should be added to this list?
As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Please share in the comments below.
Love,
Lucille

I guess I don’t understand. I just try to be a lady at all times and never have an issue. Just be feminine and be the woman who you are. I never have a problem with being out about as a woman. Here is me yesterday. Just be yourself and you will be okay!
All of the tips are great,I work around wemen all day,I watch how the walk an talk, how the move, and use there hands, they no that I am a crossdressers,I even went out with them dressed as a woman in maternity wear.
HI Becky – I’m in total agreement with you. It’s all about learning from women and concentrating when out as one – love it, Diane.
Rummaging through your purse can sometimes be necessary – finding car keys, finding wallet to pay for something, finding lipstick to swipe on your face… and of course my purse has all these things and much more. However there is a right and wrong way to rummage. If a woman can’t find something quickly she will usually set her purse down on something and pull a few things out. The mistake is holding your purse on your arm and looking as if your digging for a gold coin.
My biggest mistakes are from trying too hard or not trying at all. I found when I tried to exaggerate my hip sway I ended up looking like a robot: stiff and masculine. Have thin hips? Give up on big hip sway. Just concentrate on keeping your elbows tucked in and butt rolling. Pointing your toes in can help. And, of course, walk with your feet close to center-line.
Lucille, as usual, have wonderful tips and advice. There are a couple of things that I have found helpful. First, is to spend as much time as possible around women. I take women’s studies classes and am a member/volunteer to a women’s organization, which allows me to spend a lot of time around women, studying their movements and gestures. That, for me, is the best feminization education. Second, I take frequent short vacations, packing nothing but women’s undergarments (that is all I have worn for years), women’s clothing, heels, wigs, makeup, and women’s hygiene and other beauty products. When housekeeping comes, I am totally made up as a woman, and they see all the feminine products, they smile and treat you as a woman. I do the same with room service, and making appointments at the hotel’s spa and salon. If you are constantly dressed as a woman, surround yourself with other women, you begin to think and act like a woman. For instance, I now catch myself looking at women’s breasts and comparing them to mine, wondering who is bigger (I am now a C cup).
I really like these tips and Becky is a riot! Maternity?! The other tips about turning and the cute purse are right on. Love the stuff posted here. I am learning a lot. Billie
The funny thing is I come across women almost everywhere who do many if not all of these things.
Hi Lucille
Great advices as usual , I see that a lot of girls are against all of this tips to look more feminine, i think that you are correct in all this advices because we as trans women has to work harder to look passable and look feminine because we have male traits, and in my opinion is very important to pass as a woman because I do not want to be ridicule and harassed in public, and I have learned a lot of things with your advices and tips from you and femme secrets.
And thank you for Everything you do for the transgender community , I’m posting two recent pictures of me so you can my results of hard work and listen to people like you who knows more than me.
Much love Joanna xoxo
